Stella Tennyson Jesse

STELLA TENNYSON JESSE was born in 1887. Her younger sister Fryn was to become known as the famed novelist and crime-writer F. Tennyson Jesse. Overcoming a stammer after the First World War, Jesse became a noted stage actress; her work included appearing in productions of plays by her brother-in-law H. M. Harwood, Fryn’s husband. A journey up the Nile in 1926-27 with Fryn, Harwood and a bachelor uncle provided the inspiration for her only book, Eve in Egypt, which was originally published under the pseudonym Jane Starr in 1929.  Just after publication she married Eric Simson, who was a noted novelist under the nom de plume Laurence Kirk. Stella Tennyson Jesse died after a battle with lung cancer in 1942, at the age of 55.
