Kenneth Grahame

KENNETH GRAHAME was born in Edinburgh in 1859. His mother died when he was five, and his troubled father sent Grahame and his siblings to live with their grandmother in Cookham Dean in Berkshire. He spent the majority of his working life at the Bank of England, and began publishing essays and stories in journals, three volumes of which were published between 1894 and 1898. After retirement, and a hiatus of ten years, the publication of The Wind in the Willows in 1908 made him internationally famous. He died in 1932.
